I have heard many Crohn's disease sufferers on the healing well forum say that artificial sweeteners seem to irritate their digestive system and they avoid them. I have a really bad sweet tooth, so this is something I struggle with, but I have decided to just go ahead and have real cane sugar, preferably organic. I try not to have too much. (and my hubby has to be really really careful as he has type II diabetes). I am avoiding high fructose corn syrup as well, as I have heard that the body does not metabolize it very well and it may contribute to metabolic syndrome, weight gain, etc.
According to the Sugar from Brazil website Organic Sugar is "Sugar grown without any chemical interference and without chemical refining." I just feel better about using organic sugar in my free trade K-cup coffee in the morning with a dash of horizon organic half and half. It might not really be health food, but it gives me my yuppie caffeine kick without giving me too much of a guilty conscience. And its still cheaper than Starbucks even with all that frou frou stuff in it.
