You Can't Make this Stuff Up

I came across a funny blog today called thinkingthelions.com. Today the writer posed the question of whether the word pumpernickel is related to the word pumpkin. 

Thus I felt compelled to exert my Google-Fu skills, and Googled

"pumpernickel etymology"

By which I discovered that Pumpernickel bread is named after the German for "makes you fart like the devil."

"Etymology: German, from pumpern to break wind + Nickel goblin; from its reputed indigestibility."

Which just goes to show you that you can't make up stuff as weird as the truth.
