Deal of The Day - Leapfrog Toys from Goodwill

Oh my gosh - my mother in law and I went to Goodwill this morning and I saw a cool Leapfrog toy I decided to pick up for Ben for $2.54.  Its  Leapfrog Turbo Extreme and it had a "First Grade" cartridge in it.  I wanted to get something for Adam too, so I looked around and saw a Leapfrog Phonics Writing Desk for $2.14 so I grabbed that too.

Out of curiousity I googled the Turbo Extreme when I got home and I just realized it sells for about $200 bucks.  Holy crap.  I guess I got a good deal for two bucks and change. The cartidge itself sells for $20.00  Plus Adam's Phonics Writing Desk retails for over 60 dollars.

Something Different for Your Keurig - White Cocoa K-Cups and Canarino

I wrote earlier about the lowest price K Cups on sale for the Keurig brewer, using Amazon's subscribe and save I bought Gloria Jean's Hazelnut K-Cups for .32 a piece with free shipping.

But what to do if you are looking for something really new and different to brew in your machine and have on hand for guests.  (Isn't it fun to be able to offer guests a variety of coffees and teas in a beautiful carousel?)

In Support of Lubna Hussein, (Sudan trouser woman)

Lubna Hussein, one of 13 women arrested July 3rd in Sudan for wearing pants in opposition to strict Islamic law, showed immense bravery by wearing the same outfit to court that she was arrested for wearing.  She is facing a cruel and inhumane punishment of  40 lashes for wearing "indecent" trousers."

"This is not a case about me wearing pants," said Hussein, who works in the media department of the U.N. Mission in Sudan and contributes opinion pieces to a left-leaning Khartoum newspaper.

"This is a case about annulling the article that addresses women's dress code, under the title of indecent acts. This is my battle. This article is against the constitution and even against Islamic law itself," she said after the hearing.

Lubna is beautiful and by her picture, dresses quite modestly.  I applaud her bravery in the face of the oppression of women in Sudan.  I do not understand why people in so many countries want to control what women wear.  France is outlawing veils and coverings.  Sudan is outlawing pants.  Women the world over are being controlled by dress codes and other curtailments of freedoms.

Free Felted Bag Pattern from Designer of Dumpling Bag

Sharon Dreyfuss, the designer of the Dumpling Bag, has a free felted bag pattern on her blog.  Its a very cute bag called "Bunnies Got Back."  It is a perfect small size for a teenager with a cute intarsia bunny tail.  

The instructions are great because she goes into detail about how to do the intarisa (2 color knitting) and has step by step instructions for using double pointed needles to start the bag and work in the round.

How I Avoided Parking Deck Collapse

I have an itchy rash all over my neck and its been 4 days and hasn't gone away.  In fact, its getting worse and spreading, so I called the doctor's office about 2:30 this afternoon to see if they had any openings.

The appointment scheduler asked me how long it would take me to get there, and I said that I could get to the Alpharetta office quicker - it would take me about 20 minutes.  She said they had an opening at 3:00 so I put my shoes on, told my hubby I was going, and left.

About 10 minutes later Jin called me on my cell and said "Breaking news, parking deck collapses at 3400 North Milton Parkway."  This is where the doctor's office is located.  I said "You're kidding, right?"  No he wasn't.  I called the scheduling office, (which is located in another area) and was the first person to let them know.  I changed my appointment to the other nearby doctors office and drove over there.

No one was hurt in the collapse, just 2 cars were hit by concrete.  Still, this is very scary.  There are pediatricians offices (my kids doctors for example) in that complex and there are lots of kids in and out of there every day.
