Home Remedy Migraine Cures

I get a lot of web hits for "crohn's migraine" so I know I am not the only one blessed with these two lovely afflictions.  In the interests of sharing and caring here are some of the home remedies I have tried.

I am in no way a medical professional so let me preface this list with a standard disclaimer:  if these don't work for you stop doing them and see your doctor.

Ok - - now for the migraine "cures."

Lay in dark room with ice pack on head and pray for death.

Coffee - stronger the better.

Migrelief - B2 (riboflavin) and feverfew supplement.  My neurologist says this makes migraines 50% less strong for 50% of people.  You take the stuff every day and it will take some time to see effects.  Like 3 months.

5 hour energy seems to have a good effect on my headaches.  Good for eeking out the day when you simply can't got to the dark room to pray for death.

Here's one from my buddy Amanda.  Be careful not to make yourself pass out.  Put your feet in hot hot water and put a cold cold ice pack on your head.  The has the effect of making the blood rush to your feet and out of your head.  (Thus note the not passing out part)  I recoomend a spotter for this just in case.

When the home remedies fail - Ibuprofen or pain relief of your choice.  RX goodies include maxalt, relpax, imitrex, topamax (also known as dopamax for its brain stupifying side effects) and other more serious pain killers as can be prescribed.  See neurologist for more details.

When none of the above work - consider poking your eye out with a rusty spoon.

Beaded Jewelery

In college I went through a whole crafty phase where I was making beaded jewelery.  My grandmother, (Mom's Mom) was a major crafter and made beaded flower arrangements.  My mom had a whole massive collection of seed beads in the basement and I convinced her to give them to me.  There are so many seed beads (and other sizes) in this collection that I could make stuff for ever and never run out.  Apparently my grandmother bought from the wholesalers in New York and was an inveterate bargain hunter.   My mom jokes that her mom would spend more money in gas driving around to different stores to get a cheaper price on something.

I have carted my bead collection around for years and years.  I haven't done any beading in a long time, though.  Nowadays beading has developed all kinds of new methods that make the craft better than ever.  I love the new elastic stretch beading line for example.

If you are in the market for beading supplies, foxyfindings.com has great prices.  I liked the way they sell sets of loose beads that are all coordinated to go together.  Someone wanting to get into the craft would not have to spend too much money to get started with enough beads to make a necklace or bracelet without having to buy strands and hanks of beads.

Nice Reverse Phone Lookup web site

If you ever need to perform a reverse phone search, try tracenumber.com.   Basically, you type in the phone mumber you want information on, hit submit, and it will come back with all sorts of information on that number.  If  its a listed number you will get the name and address of the owner, as well as the physical location, phone service provider, etc.  The basic lookup is free and if you need to do an advanced lookup they have a paid service for that as well.

In this day and age of harrassing collections agents and fraudulent charity collector, I think its a good idea to know who is calling you.  This web site couldbe very useful.  And if you have any troubles with prank calls, telemarketers, or hangups, it could be good for that too.

Pure Genius: No Mess Muffins Recipe

I found the most fantastic No Mess Muffin recipe on the TechKnitting blog.  The basic genius method here is that you mix the muffins in a ziplock bag and then cut the corner and use the bag to squirt the batter into the muffin tins.  What a fantastic idea.  I hate doing dishes so this idea really makes sense to me.

Got HDMI Overload?

Here's just what the Dad that literally has everything (and not enough HDMI jacks to plug that everything into) needs - an HDMI switch. This will allow you to plug all sorts of goodies into one TV.  I am talking about such gadgets as as BluRay player, HD Cable Box or Tivo, PS3, XBox360, Satellite, etc.  Great for those times you just have HDMI overload.

Global climate change threatens suburban neighborhoods

Guest Post by Michael W. Axelrod

Note From Marianne - In case there was any doubt about it, today's guest post proves beyond a doubt that my brother Mike is a complete goober.  That, my friends is what we here in the Souther Region of the US call a silly person.

Asked to help me review the wonderful hot tub covers offered by Spascenes - this is what he came up with. By the way - these spa covers are really cool - instead of the regular big gray "blah" cover you get a panoramic picture on the back of the cover that is so cool to look at.

Global climate change threatens suburban neighborhoods

Distracted and confused real estate agents have been discovered wandering suburban neighborhoods around 3 in the afternoon each day. "Where have they gone?", "Where have they gone?" One mumbling agent was heard to say. The CDC has reportedly stated; "Keep clear of all real estate agents until further notice.  We don't know how many there are and they seem potentially dangerous."

Scientific reports surfacing around the globe suggest the real cause may be an enormously sluggish air mass high in the stratosphere forming above the Cayman Islands. Reportedly a circle of stagnant warm air, it seems to effecting the brainwaves of more simple minded folks, such as real estate agents and wall street securities dealers.  Others attribute the warm air mass to clearing of large office spaces and the burning of thousands of paper securities and junk bonds.

Current research suggests the region of air is both growing and sinking at the same time. Scientists have nicknamed this area as "the tub zone", for it's round tub like shape in the atmosphere.  One such theory suggests the entire planets atmosphere could be dramatically altered in the near future as this warming trend continues. Dr. Zane Shockly at the MIT Center for global climate change has been reported as saying; "Damn that thing's big" and "It wont be long now until that hot tub covers all of North America."

The Hipster PDA

While I was checking out the "Getting things Done" entry on Wikipedia I came across a great method for a PDA called the Hipster PDA.  Its kind of a tongue in cheek - back to basics version made out of index cards, and a binder clip.  What I might call "redneck/ghetto style", if I might be so bold as to flit of the edge of offensiveness.  ;-)  With the addition of a couple of Papermate pens   you'd be all set!

Things I don't understand but would like to

Seth Godin had a really interesting blog post entitled "Things you don't understand," the idea being to make a list of things you could understand if you put your mind to it, but never have gotten around to.

To me, life should be a constant process of learning new things.  I think that if I learn something new every day, even if its something small, I feel like I have made an accomplishment.

What's on my list?

  • How to make weblog trackbacks.  *I think I just learned!*
  • How to increase and decrease stitches in loom knitting.
  • How to make a blog site map to submit to google.
  • How to increase my blog's readership and achieve a pagerank above 0.
  • How to restore MS Exchange mail stores and mail files from tape backup.  *yep - gotta do this for work*
