I've been thinking alot about saving money this week. I went a little overboard (no pun intended) on the girls getaway cruise and now its time to for Jin to go on his getaway trip. In order to be able to afford our weekend getaways we have to tighten the belt where we can.
Here's a frugal lifestyle blog I came across via Entrecard that looks well written and interesting. Its called Sense to Save. She doesn't seem crazy. Have you ever noticed that some of the "frugal living" people are just a teeny tiny bit nuts. Like, if it involves me having to wash my own maxi pads or feed my family hot dog stir fry, count me out. But I digress.
I got a great deal at Walmart - SteamFresh frozen vegetables were $1.00. They are normally at least double that at Publix so to me this was a great deal and I stocked up. These Birds Eye veggies are great - you pop the whole unopened bag in the microwave for 5:00 minutes and you get nice crisp-tender steamed veggies. I will cut open the bag, put some butter and or Mrs Dash, or seasoning that will go well with my entree and there is my veggies all taken care of. I really strive to serve a nutritious yummy veggie side dish every day and these make it so easy. And for a dollar! Wow to Walmart.
I got some other deals of the day at my local lunchtime shopping haunt - you guessed it - Goodwill. Its actually pretty funny because the other day I blogged about "Things you don't understand," a post on Seth Godin's blog. He's this Internet genius marketing guru guy - founder of Squidoo. And right there on the Goodwill shelf what did I see - Seth's book "Purple Cow." The list price being $19.99, I was pretty happy to buy it for $1.50.
I also picked up Eats Shoots and Leaves, the bestselling book about punctuation. (might help if I'm having trouble sleeping at night?) I've been wanting to read that and hoping it would show up at the Goodwill. :-) You know my theory - all bestsellers eventually show up at Goodwill and Garage sales. Its just a matter of time. For my favorite author, Jayne Ann Krentz, I don't have that kind of patience; I buy her books in hardcover the day they come out. But the book on punctuation, well, I have a little more patience.
