I think it is so amazing that our next President, Obama will be inaugurated on Martin Luther King Jr's birthday. Talk about keeping your eyes on the prize!
No, it's not the end of the struggle, but it is a wonderful manifestation of the ability for society to change. What would have been unthinkable in the past has happened. Barriers against people accomplishing their goals have fallen. Others still remain.
Today I would like to think about:
- Ways to help under served areas in the country such as inner city, rural areas, and the working poor.
- Hoping for a good health insurance solution from the new administration. This is directly an African American issue and a general issue as well. My own mother in law has no health insurance.
- Improving the education system. Reduce number of kids who drop out.
- Extend the legal rights associated marriage so that everyone can benefit from a stable life partnership in the same way. Wills, job benefits, and tax savings should not hinge on what gender your partner is.
