5 Things I am Happy About Today - Halloween Edition

I had fun and good feedback with last week's "5 Things I am Happy about Today" so lets do another one.

1.  I am looking forward to going home for Thanksgiving.  We will be driving up and seeing the Columbus, OH folks, and then the Rochester folks. 

2.  Halloween trick or treating was fun and the kids had a blast.  (It's all about the kids!)  I got a nice long walk out of it so no need for phentermine today.

3.  I got called into work yesterday, which was a bummer cause I missed breakfast, but good news is I will get paid for it and a couple extra bucks at the holidays never hurts.

4.  I got in a nice nap today.  ZZZZZZzzzzzz

5.  Pandora radio on my new Squeezebox internet radio is pretty cool.  Nice Anniversary present.

Here are the kids dressed up as Despicable Me Minions for Halloween.  We had a blast walking around the neighborhood with their buddies from down the street.  I don't think people could tell what their costumes were, though!  So much for home made costumes.  One good thing is that if the overalls still fit next year (and I think they will!) we can do Mario and Luigi with them.

The Buffalo Bills lost again!  They are having bad luck for sure this season.  Not going to win any fantasy football trophies with these guys.

Adam on the other hand is still trying to get away with the Knock Knock, Who's There? Chicken!, Chicken Who?  Chicken I love you!  Then he cracks himself up for like 10 minutes and tells it again.  And again.

You just can't find entertainment of this quality on any old web directory.  LOL.

America's Craft Brewers - Making Booze

Werni, like most craft distillers, started off making only vodka, a liquor that takes just a few days to make and bottle before heading out the door to customers' gimlet glasses. But then he began branching into other spirits and is now making both bourbon and rye whiskey. Those spirits must be aged for two years in special wooden casks.

When I was a kid I remember that my grandmother would drink Bourbon on the rocks each evening saying her doctor told her it was good for her heart. She lived into her 90's so I think it worked.

I don't drink beer or wine anymore because they can sometimes trigger a migraine headache for me. But I have found that I don't seem to have any headache issues with Brandy. I just drank the last of my bottle of Courvoisier. (It took me a few years but I am pretty sure I drank the entire thing!)

I would love to try a handbrewed US bourbon. Sounds delicious.

Kind of makes me laugh that they used to just call it moonshine when people made little batches of booze.

Alcohol is a disinfectant, right - so it should work to treat acne.

Chillaxin'

Today is a good day to just chill out.  I am still recovering from a pretty bad virus which caused my Crohn's to flare up.

Hubster went and got us bagels.  I got a Nova platter - yum.  We finally got the grill set up and he picked up some awesome looking precooked ribs that we can just throw on the grill to heat through.  So dinner tonight is all set up.  Yes, I will go easy on the ribs.  Grease and Crohn's is not a good mix.  (Only good thing is that not eating for three days was like one of those "most effective diet pills."   You know the flu diet where you lose 10 pounds from being sick.  Blech.

I got a pressie yesterday.  Its our anniversary present to ourselves.  (14 years!)  Even though we couldn't really afford it.   Sigh.  Money is tight right now, but we are trying to hang in there.   So anyway it's a Logitech SqueezeBox Boom internet radio.  It's awesome.  Great sound - and I have it streaming a cool 80's staton off of the Internet.  It is a little complicated to set up but so far I have Pandora running on it and also a number of cool streaming radio stations from the net.

It was cheaper at Best Buy, which is cool.  I am really liking it.

I don't blog about the bad stuff

I have a bunch of blogs, twitter, squidoo pages, facebook...  I am all over the place.  But I still retain my privacy pretty well I think.  I don't like to air my dirty laundry in front of the world.  I am always surprised that people will do that - like go on reality TV and show the world how they scream at their kids.

I am usually trying NOT to let the world hear me screaming at my kids.  Heh heh heh.

There is enough imperfections in my life without me having to highlight them.  I guess denial is working for me.  I do the best I can and I think we all are doing the best we can.  And that's pretty good.

At the same time I think its really bad luck to walk around saying everything in your life is perfect and wonderful.  That's just asking for trouble.  So I guess maybe its ok to blog about one or two perfectly chosen "bad" things.  Yeah - that's the ticket.  Just enough to make your readers relate to you and make you seem human.  But not enough to make you look freaking pitiful.

So does anyone have any recommendations on how to get rid of belly fat?  If I ever get the gumption and money together I would love to have a tummy tuck.  Honestly, getting rid of the fat wouldn't even take care of my problem.  I have a gosh darn Kangaroo pouch.  Not cool, man... not cool.

Good Cheesy Romance Free on Kindle - This means you Mom!

I actually bought this book back when it came out in dead tree edition and really enjoyed it.  It's a romance novel but based on an alternate history when magic is real in England.  So its a little like a Regency romance with mages in it. 

 

The book reminds me of Mary Jo Putney's paranormal historical romances.  I much prefer reading romance novels to attempting hoodia weight loss.  In fact I am more likely to attempt hoody weight loss where you wear a size XXL hooded sweatshirt to hide your back fat.

5 Things I am Happy About Today

I follow a lot of motivational speakers on Twitter.  To tell you the truth, 140 characters is about all the motivation I can handle at once time.  I once watched Tony Robbins for 10 minutes or so and I found it exhausting.  Do we really have to be that freaking pumped out about improving ourselves?  Whatever happened to taking a few little steps here and there and being happy on the journey?

So let me take a moment to list some things I am happy about right now. Today.  At this moment.

1.  My health is ok.  For most people maybe this wouldn't be such a big deal, but with Crohn's I feel like every day I can work and take care of my family while avoiding social security disability, is a win.

2.  Speaking of family:  My family is awesome.  My kids are sweet, my husband is thoughtful and caring, and my parents are THE BEST IN THE UNIVERSE.

3,  There's even more family to be happy about.  How about those brothers and sisters in laws?  We recently got back in contact with my brother in law that I haven't talked to in a while and that is great.

4.  My house.  I have a house - it keeps the rain off my head, gives me and the family some security.  I have some equity in it and our neighborhood is thriving.  The kids have friends on the street they play with after school and I now know it was a good decision to pick the house on the cul de sac.

5.  My job!  Hey - I got one and its good!  And best of all - today is payday.  Yay.
