Brisket

Since my accomplishments this weekend don't extend beyond taking a shower, going out to lunch, buying new pants for big tall kid at Target, and giving away 2 garbage bags worth of clothes and toys, let me tell you about the "My Mother's Brisket" I made last week.  It was super yummy.  I made a salad with some home grown tomatoes too.  And egg noodles for brisket and sauce.

Some people really like tungsten rings, but I prefer yellow gold.  Just in case anyone wants to know! You know, for Chanukah or something.

Beautiful Butterfly

The hubster snapped this shot this morning.  I"m not sure what kind of butterfly it is but is is beautiful.  I admit to performing a little bit of photoshop light and color correction on it.

I've been sick all weekend so I don't have anything too fun to report.  Well, my tomatoes are coming along really nicely - I think I have some extra to give to my co-worker who loves fresh veggies.

Here's a pic of today's tomatoe harvest.  Makes you want to sit on the porch on some rustic furniture and enjoy the summer evening.  Too bad its too darn hot out there for any sort of porch sitting.

I have to pick the before they are too ripe or else some kind of little animal likes to take a bite.  I ripen them on the counter.

 

I remember being in school and learning about the Great Depression. I remember seeing how people were selling apples on the street and thinking that was terrible.

Now as an adult in the not so great recession I am thinking "Hmm, urban fruit stand business - interesting idea"

Goodwill Find of the Week

Look at this beautiful Granny Squre afghan I found at Goodwill on Friday!  It's awesome.  I can't beleive someone gave it away.  Kind of sad really that someone spent so much time on it and then no one in their family wanted it.  Oh well - it has found a good home now.  I will pretend that my grandmother made it.  I do have a granny afghan that my grandmother Thelma made so it fits in.

After the Rain

I snapped this awesome picture of the roses with water drops on Friday morning.  The fog was getting burned off by the moring sun and my Canon Elph fogged up, so I snapped this with my BlackBerry Torch.  It came out great!

Happy Birthday to My Firstborn Son!

Yesterday was Ben's 8th birthday.  Here are some pics for you.  He is really growing up on me.  He has a silly dry sense of humor, a lot like me and his dad.  It's really nice to see him taking on a lot more responsibility around the house.  I am really proud of him.  :-)

Tomatoes!

The yellow squash have died, and the zucchini haven't produced anything, but I have cherry tomatoes all over the place.

We ate one small batch in a salad last weekend and we have a lot of green ones that should be ripening soon.  Here are some pics, just in case you want to look and go "Ahhh."    These are growing over by out AC unit, it's not a hot tub spa cover.

This is a photo of a photo.  When we met with Jin's Aunt Sandy she showed us some pictures of his grandparents.  This is Harlan A. Case in his Navy uniform during WWII.  He was on the U.S.S. Fall River in the South Pacific.

He looks great in his Navy uniform.  Much better looking than medical uniforms.
